The Right Reverend Dr. Jonathan Holland
Bishop of the Northern Region
Bishop Holland was ordained as the new Bishop of the Northern Region of the Diocese of Brisbane on February 2, 2006.
Born in 1956, Jonathan holds the following tertiary qualifications:
- BA (Hons), University of Western Australia
- BA (Hons), Oxford University
- Oxford Certificate of Theology, Ripon College, Cuddesdon
- MA, Oxford University, and
- MA, University of Queensland.
- Ph.D University of Queensland
Deaconed in 1982 and priested in 1983 in the Diocese of Perth, Jonathan has served in parishes in Perth (1982-84), Sydney (St James King Street, 1984-89), and again in Perth (Church of the Ascension, Midland 1989-93). From 1993 until 2006 he served as Rector of Christ Church St Lucia.
In addition to his ministry as Rector of St Lucia, Jonathan has served as an Examining Chaplain to the Archbishop (1995-2005), Area Dean of Brisbane West (1998-2001), Archdeacon of Oxley (2001-2006) and Residentiary Canon of St John’s Cathedral (2004-2006).
Jonathan’s education in Australia and overseas, his spirituality, his theological and pastoral expertise make him well suited for the important ministry of a bishop.
Jonathan is married to Kerry and they have three children: Luke, Edward and Catherine.
